Disney Set to Welcome Magical New Fleet Members

The world’s most magical cruise line has just announced that by 2023, it will have doubled its fleet to include two brand new super ships. Each floating city will weight around 135,000 gross tons, which makes them a smidgeon bigger than their existing sisters, the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. On-board they’ll be 1250 staterooms, as well as a rainbow of family friendly features and amenities. With a capacity expansion of 50% on the horizon, Disney fans can expect to see a kaleidoscope of exciting new itineraries rolled out over the next few years.

A sneak peek at what’s to come

Unfortunately, the plans are still in their very early stages. This means that Disney is staying pretty tight lipped about deck designs, ship names and itineraries. One thing the company has done is reassure passengers that an enchanting experience is on its way, with a press release stating that the creative team is “already dreaming up exciting new ways to create the world’s most magical oceangoing adventures.”

Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at The Walt Disney Company asserts that the new ships are part of the line’s commitment to offering passengers an experience unlike any other. He said, “We pride ourselves on the unforgettable vacation experiences we deliver to our guests each and every day, and the expansion of our Disney fleet will allow us to create even more magical memories for families at sea and in incredible cruise destinations around the world.”

Great expectations for Disney’s newest fleet members

As Disney has introduced the world to a myriad of cruise industry firsts, we’re pretty sure that some new innovations will definitely make a debut. Magic Portholes and the AquaDuck at-sea rollercoaster stole the spotlight when its current ships launched, and no doubt there’s other exciting developments in the works.

Not only is the line launching two new ships, but it’s also set to wow the world with a host of brand new installments over the coming years, including immersive theme park movie experiences, and a brand new resort.

“The expansion of Disney Cruise Line only adds to our excitement for the unprecedented growth taking place across our vacation destinations, from new Star Wars experiences coming to the Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts to the 25th anniversary of Disneyland Paris and the grand opening of our newest park, Shanghai Disney Resort,” added Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek.

Don’t get too excited just yet, as the ships won’t be ready to hit the seas until 2021 and 2023. In the meantime, why not check out our fairy-tale line-up of Disney voyages, currently cruising the Caribbean with a host of colourful characters on-board.
