The Top Things to See and Do in New York

0

A global centre of entertainment, fashion, media, and finance, New York is a vibrant, bustling city packed full to the brim of things to do, see, experience and explore.

From world-class museums such as the MoMA and iconic structures such as the Statue of Liberty, to historic streets, trendy bars, and ethnic enclaves, it’s fair to say that New York is alive with a unique urban buzz.

So here’s our rundown of our favourite things to see and do in New York…

Take in Times Square

With its bustling crowds, ginormous billboards, and flashing digital screens, Times Square truly is a sensory overload of the best variety.

Located at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue, Times Square is one of the world’s busiest pedestrian intersections, as well as one of the world’s most visited tourist attractions – drawing over 50 million visitors each year.

The iconic square is also a key player in the city’s theatre scene and there are over forty Broadway theatres just a stone’s throw away. And if you’re lucky enough to be in New York on New Year’s Eve, make sure you don’t miss the world-renowned Ball Drop, which takes place at the Times Building each and every year.

Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art

The largest art museum in the US, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (of the Met as it’s known by locals), is one of the most visited art museums in the world – and it’s easy to see why.

With over 2 million works of art spanning 5,000 years of history, it’s unlikely you’ll have time to take in all the exhibits here, so it’s worth planning ahead and figuring out what you’d most like to see before you arrive.

Explore Central Park

Make sure you take some time out of busy New York life to enjoy the more relaxed pace of life in Central Park.
The most visited urban park in the US and one of the most filmed locations in the world, no visit to the Big Apple is complete without a stroll around what is arguably the most famous park in the world.

And, with almost 50 fountains, monuments, and sculptures, and 36 bridges and arches, as well as 21 official playgrounds, and an abundance of recreational facilities, there’s plenty of things to see and do in this urban paradise.

Check out the Guggenheim

A must visit for all art lovers, the Guggenheim is home to one of the world’s finest collections of modern and contemporary art.

In addition to an ever-growing collection of impressionist, post-impressionist, early modern, and contemporary art, the modernist Guggenheim building itself, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is well worth the trip.

Experience the High Line

The High Line is a magical retreat from the bustling city below. Once a railroad track carrying freight trains, today the High Line, which runs from Gansevoort Street to West 34th Street, has been transformed into a long, landscaped waling park complete with plants, picnic tables, benches, and art installations.

If you’re looking for a unique and peaceful view of the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline, we’d highly recommend a walk along the High Line.
