Royal Caribbean Cruises have partnered with the renowned Chefmakers Cooking Academy, allowing them to offer guests a range of culinary experiences during their cruise. The Chefmakers Cooking Academy is a cookery school which aims to give all aspiring cooks the practical skills that they need to create food on a day-to-day basis. The cooking classes are now available aboard the Liberty of the Seas and in Autumn, they will be rolled out into the Freedom of the Seas. Guests will have to pay an additional cost to attend classes, and they will be taught in the galleys of the ship.
The classes range from $40 to $125 and are set up so that both beginners and experienced cooks can take part. There will be several “kitchen essentials” programs such as Knife Skills, All About Chicken and Quick and Easy Fish. There will also be classes which are more social in nature and are more like “interactive cooking parties”. The cooking parties will teach classes such as “Surf and Turf”, “American Cuisine” and “Asian Persuasion”. The programs were first tried out on Mariner of the Seas and proved to be so successful that Royal Caribbean are now ready to role it out onto other ships. The three hour cookery classes are available to all guests over the age of 18 and are likely to appeal to many so make sure you book early!

There will also be a range of seasonal classes taking place around holiday periods, such as Gingerbread House Decorating at Christmas, or the more spooky themed Pumpkin Carving class at Halloween. All guests participating in the classes will receive an apron from Chefmakers, as well as recipe cards for the recipes they prepare. There will also be an opportunity to purchase the kitchenware and utensils that the chefs use so that you can truly recreate the dishes at home.
For children, there will be a one hour class called “Kids with Kids Baking”. Children from age 4 – 11 can take part in the class and as well as baking some tasty treats, they will learn a lot about kitchen hygiene and maybe even get a few lessons in chemistry!
