The smallest member of the Cunard Line, Queen Victoria, has entered drydock this week as she undergoes a massive facelift, which will include the addition of private whirlpools, floor-to-ceiling windows and even a luxurious ‘pillow menu’.

Although only 10 years old, Queen Victoria is being given a new lease of life by Cunard Line, who are intent on extending the appeal of their liners. Flagship Queen Mary 2 underwent a similar facelift recently, reaffirming her position as one of the world’s best-loved cruise liners.

Cunard Line has revealed a few of the new features and additions the Queen Victoria will boast following her upgrade. The Sun Deck will be extended significantly, providing a spacious, luxurious area for guests to relax under the sun and dine al fresco.

Despite this facelift, Cunard Line are making sure they don’t compromise their luxurious offerings, for which they’re so well loved and admired. Five of the liner’s penthouse suites will receive comprehensive upgrades, including the installation of grand balconies for guests to take in the passing views.

These penthouses will also be the lucky recipients of private whirlpools, a wonderful addition for guests looking to relax after a long day exploring the beautiful port cities and regions visited by Queen Victoria.

This will represent Queen Victoria’s first facelift since 2011, and by far her largest upgrade. The previous facelift was more a fresh lick of paint and general housekeeping than the full multi-million upgrade the ship will enjoy over the next month.

The completion of Queen Victoria’s facelift is slated for the start of June, when she will re-enter service, introducing guests to her amazing new features.

Cunard’s senior vice president Simon Palethorpe said: “As part of the Queen Victoria refurbishment, we’ve looked to heighten our customers’ experience in every way, from the extension of the aft lido sun deck to refreshed interiors across the board.

“Responding to the demands of our guests, we’ve introduced 43 Britannia Club Staterooms, bringing the Queen Victoria in line with the rest of the Cunard fleet. The distinctive Cunard elegance remains of course and design cues have been taken from previous Cunard ships, such as the original Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth.

“At the same time, there are many enhancements – for example, new bar concepts and large flat screen TVs in all staterooms – that meet the needs of today’s luxury traveller.”
