Cruises fit for a Queen

Like a catwalk model or a red carpet celebrity, the Queen Mary 2 is the object of the camera lens following the recent refit of the magnificent vessel in Hamburg. All the attention is rightly deserved, she has undergone some spectacular changes. Tillberg Design, collaborators on the original design, put their mark on the new appearance of this magnificent ship.

Inside and out, the Queen Mary 2 has been spruced up with refurbishments to make her a splendid sight. Now sporting a glossy new fresh coat of red and black paint outside, work inside too has been taking place.

The Commodore Club is an elegant monochrome area with charcoal and cream dominating the colour scheme where stripes are a major theme in the décor. Even the grain on the wood fascia has distinctive stripes giving this room a sophisticated look. High back chairs close to the counter or comfortable, cushioned club chairs provide the seating in this location.

Royal Comfort and Cuisine

Following a good old British pub theme, the Golden Lion recreates the feel of snugs with etched glass panels separating window-side compartments. Seating features deeply buttoned leather cushions for settees, banquette seating and club chairs, chandeliers hang from a tongue and groove ceiling and the warm caramel and toffee colours give this pub area a warm, cosy feel. And of course, a piano is there for a sing song too. With this makeover, the Golden Lion Pub now shares more similarities with pubs on other ships in the fleet.

Sir Samuel’s Restaurant pay homage to Art Déco and has distinctive carpets in lilacs and bronze with motifs of the era. The Veuve Cliquot Champagne Bar is all swirls in champagne colours trimmed and accented with a range of delicious brown shades. The Canyon Ranch Spa has also had repairs made with the teaking surrounding the Aquapool restored as well as wet areas nearby.

The Grand Lobby really is a grand spot since its refurbishment and offers a great means to make an entrance. The staterooms have been revamped with luxurious soft furnishings in exquisite designs for bedding, curtains and carpets. It’s all terribly glam!
