Maritime artist Robert Lloyd’s latest oil-painting, titled ‘Atlantic Splendour’ and depicting the Queen Mary 2 cutting through the waves on her way to New York, made $4600 at auction, with the proceeds going to The Prince’s Trust.

The work was completed by Robert in the Grand Lobby on board the ship, where he allowed passengers to ask questions as well as watch the masterpiece coming to life.

“It has been such a pleasure working on this project in such a grand setting as Queen Mary 2 herself,” said Robert. “Concentrating on the painting and talking to the guests looks easier than it is, but I’ve loved the challenge and I’m thrilled we’ve been able to raise so much money for The Prince’s Trust.”

Associated with Cunard Line after a meeting with Liverpool-born retired Commodore Ron Warwick, Robert has since completed near a dozen paintings for the liner, having also previously completed works featuring both the Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2 while also cruising on board.

Cunard, now Platinum Ambassadors for The Prince’s Trust, has raised over £1 million in less than seven years to aid in bettering the lives of deprived young people living in the UK.

Working with 14 to 30 year olds, The Trust provides practical and financial support as well as developing key workplace skills, assurance and motivation to those who have been in care, in trouble with the law, have struggled at school, or are long-term unemployed.

Marketing Director for Cunard, Angus Struthers, said, “I’d like to thank Robert for joining us on board Queen Mary 2, for what has been a fantastic project. Cunard have been proud supporters of The Prince’s Trust since 2007 and this is just another example of how committed we are to ensuring we raise a further £1 million for the young people, which it so devotedly supports by 2018.”
