Royal Caribbean’s newest liner, the Quantum of the Seas, has been christened in New York – making her an official member of the fleet. The vessel was christened at Cape Liberty by godmother, Kristen Chenoweth, after performing ‘Over the Rainbow’, accompanied by an Earth Harp.

Chenoweth released the ceremonial bottle of champagne down a zip line to smash against the side of the Quantum, to commemorate the christening.

Richard Fain, chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., enthused: “You can’t think quantum without thinking leap and that’s what this ship is. With Quantum of the Seas we wanted to create a new paradigm of what cruising would be all about; set new standards that all of us will have to follow in the future: to make the cruise experience so special, so different, so easy that no other vacation could hold a candle to it.”

America’s Got Talent finalist, Sonic Odyssey, performed on a 135-drum Drum Wall and the NYPD Emerald Society Pipes and Drums also performed a piping session at the christening.

Kristen Chenoweth is an American singer and actress, best known for her work in musical theatre having starred in Broadway productions of Wicked and Promises, Promises. Chenoweth has also held a recurring role in the hit TV series, Glee.

The star has a lasting relationship with Royal Caribbean having performed the Sinatra classic, New York, New York, whilst riding the aboard the Royal Caribbean float in the 2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
