Norwegian Cruise Line and the Port of Houston Authority have recently come to an agreement where the line will be able to sail from Houston for three years. This opens the possibility of new and exciting cruises with Norwegian, and there is a possibility of this arrangement being extended for an additional two years.

The return of the Norwegian line to Houston is expected to give a boost to the local economy and create 222 new jobs, which is great news for the city.

From the start of autumn 2014, Norwegian Jewel will sail from Houston on a seven-day cruise around the Western Caribbean.

About Norwegian Jewel:

Norwegian Jewel is a 93,500 ton ship with a range of amazing modern features. For example, the ship’s accommodation is first class. Passengers can stay in The Haven which includes exclusive luxury rooms and some of the largest suites available at sea. Some of these suites are an enormous 5,000 square foot! The Haven also has a private courtyard with a swimming pool, gym and whirlpool which is accessible from select villas. Villas also have access to a private sundeck with large two-person sun beds and hammocks. The villas are placed at the top of the ship and so guarantee amazing views. There’s even a butler and concierge service! In all, it’s as if you were staying at a five star hotel at sea!

The food on offer on Norwegian Jewel is equally fantastic. Passengers on the cruises from Houston will be able to dine in fourteen restaurants which offer a wide range of cuisine, such as French, American and Asian. All passengers should certainly check out the steak house Cagney’s for a delicious steak, and the most recent restaurant introduced to the line, Moderno Churasscaria, a Brazilian steakhouse, is definitely worth visiting.

In terms of what you can do onboard, there is a great range of activities and something for everyone. There are the swimming pools and hot tubs which are perfect for relaxing in during the day. The ship has ten different bars and lounges so you can have a cocktail while basking in the sun. For those who want to stay active, the ship’s fitness centre houses a range of modern exercise machines. But if you are just looking to avoid any physical activity and just kick back then the spa service and salon is certainly for you. At night, many passengers choose to hit the casino and see if they can strike it lucky!

Norwegian caters for families too, particularly as they have the exclusive Nickelodeon programming onboard the ship. This encompasses activities such as a breakfast with characters SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer, where everyone eats, dances and sings songs. There are other meet and greets with characters too, and a Nick Jr. Story time. Other activities include arts and craft sessions and family trivia.

Finally, the new Splash Academy which is suitable for ages 2 to 12, and the Entourage program for ages 13 to 17, will keep your kids occupied and while you go and relax. You’ll have peace of mind that your children are being supervised professionals and there is a new theme each day. If your children like pirates, circuses, cowboys or the jungle, they’ll love this activity!
