Norwegian Joy On Track to Delight Chinese Cruisers

0

It’s no secret that the Chinese are falling head over heels in love with cruising. With the budget friendly itineraries, exotic destinations and unrivalled views of the open ocean, it’s not hard to see why.  Now, Norwegian Cruise Line is taking its presence one step further and building a purpose built super ship, constructed exclusively for the Chinese market. In the lead up to the launch, Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed both the English and Chinese names for its newest fleet member.

Cross cultural connections

In English, the ship will be known as Norwegian Joy. In Chinese, the translation will be Xi Yue Hao. Norwegian explained the motivations behind its choice, asserting that it wanted to choose a name that highlights the sense of bliss, paradise and luxury that passengers will experience on-board its newest ship.

Frank Del Rio, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Chief Executive Officer reveals that the name was specially chosen for the Chinese market, and reflects the unique on-board experience passengers will receive. He said, “After closely studying the Chinese cruise market for several years, we wanted to be clear about what we will deliver to our guests on this spectacular vessel. Norwegian Joy will provide the same sense of freedom and flexibility found on all Norwegian Cruise Line ships, but with resort-style vacation experiences and amenities designed specifically with the Chinese guest in mind.”

Cementing its Chinese presence

Complementing the pre-launch preparations for Norwegian Joy is a brand new logo and Chinese name, designed to help the line better connect with its Eastern market. In mainland China, Norwegian Cruise Line will be known as Nuò Wéi Zhēn, a moniker that describes a Promising, Exclusive and Authentic cruise line. This goes hand in hand with the opening of new offices in Beijing and Shanghai.

As a Breakaway Plus-class vessel, 3,900 passenger Norwegian Joy will make its debut in summer 2017. It will feature the same trademark on-board experience as the line’s other ships, albeit with a Chinese edge. This includes a focus on local cuisine, luxury shopping at sea and a host of on-board activities.

David Herrera, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of China revealed, “Chinese guests will discover an unmatched quality of service, cuisine, entertainment and retail experience on board Norwegian Joy that is simply not available in the China market today.”
