Norwegian Escape Hull Art Nears Completion

Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship is being given its final touches as famed marine wildlife artist Guy Harvey finishes off the Norwegian Escape’s hull art. Set to the take to the seas in November this year – the ship will feature more than 1,000 feet of custom-designed marine art.

The art depicts two underwater scenes which blend seamlessly into one another featuring Caribbean Sea life such as sting rays, sea turtles, whale sharks and tropical fish, including Harvey’s signature sailfish.

Dr Guy Harvey, enthused: “I’m so proud to showcase the incredible marine life of the Caribbean on the largest canvas a human could possibly paint. After weeks of work, the artisans at Meyer Werft have done an incredible job of recreating my art on such a vast format. I’m overjoyed at the level of detail that has been achieved and I can’t wait to see Norwegian Escape in her element out on the ocean.”

The complex process of painting such a large, curved area begins with a laser projection onto the hull. A team of artists then pencil over the lines project by the laser and tape the lines before paint is applied by hand.

Andy Stuart, president and chief operating officer of Norwegian Cruise Line, added: “We had great expectations for this artwork, which reflects the marine life of the spectacular waters on which this ship will sail. Guy’s vision for Norwegian Escape’s signature artwork is the perfect complement to everything this ship stands for.”

The ships in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet are instantly recognisable for their bright and attractive hull art. The Norwegian Breakaway has a strong New York theme to represent the city where she homeports whereas the Epic has a more minimalistic swirly design.
