Norwegian Cruise Line’s Private Island to Undergo Refurbishment

0

One of the best things about cruising with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is their gorgeous island, Great Stirrup Cay. Situated in the Bahamas, the island offers a serene beach environment complete with palm trees, snorkeling and kayaking. Well, now it’s about to get even better. NCL is temporarily closing the island for a set of huge improvements.

Vast improvements

When it was purchased by NCL in 1977, Great Stirrup Cay became the first private island to be owned by a cruise line. And given that it’s one of their greatest assets, it makes sense that NCL want it to be the best it can be. Over the course of two months, between August and October 2016, they will be making vast improvements in a number of areas

Over a million US dollars has been set aside for landscaping alone. Around 100,000 square feet of pathways are planned, with the tranquil beach set to be complemented by a new boardwalk. Also on the list is a pair of zip lines going across the island. A thousand feet in length, the zip lines will run parallel, allowing passengers to go from end to end without any hassle. Sound great? Well that’s not all. NCL are also adding an underwater sculpture garden to the island. The garden will provide further excitement for snorkelers, with waterproof maps provided too.

Entertainment complex

On top of all that, a new entertain complex next to the beach will include basketball courts, volleyball courts and table tennis facilities for those who love summer activities. With an air-conditioned reception, the complex provides changing rooms for people who want to freshen up by the beach. It will also be able to accommodate live music and shows, with a brand new stage area and seating, as well as shaded areas for picnics.

Hungry? The island will soon be home to even more food choices. A Jimmy Buffet restaurant, a LandShark Bar and Grill, there’s even going to be a free taco bar! Also on the agenda is the Lagoon Retreat. The area will have its own secluded beach, restaurant (complete with an ocean view) and spa.
