The new Miami-based ship was launched with a swanky party

Norwegian’s Getaway was christened in style last Friday as the company held a launch party for the ship, featuring flashy dancers, fireworks, plenty of glittering confetti and the perfect party atmosphere.

The ship’s godmothers, who are non other than the Miami Dolphin Cheerleaders, attended the swanky ceremony, shaking their giant orange and green pompoms before the traditional Champagne bottle was smashed against the ship’s hull to bless the boat.

International music superstar Pitbull (real name Armando Christian Perez) headlined the christening party at Port Miami. The star is a Miami native, a Latin Grammy Award winner and an investor who holds a majority equity stake in luxury light vodka brand “Voli”. Voli is naturally flavoured handcrafted vodka, delicately blended from the finest multi-distilled wheat Vodka, pure spring water and natural infused flavours. Pitbull and Voli have partnered with Norwegian Cruise Line, launching the drinks brand onboard the Getaway ship.

Speaking ahead of the event, Pitbull spoke about his partnership of Voli with Norwegian:

“It’s great to partner Voli with Norwegian Cruise Line. Its a perfect match, what better than a party on a beautiful ship with amazing vodka… holy Voli!!”

Before the official launch party, the ship spent three days in New York City for some Super Bowl fun. The ship was transformed into the Bud Light Hotel, which generated plenty of publicity for the brand. Speaking about this at the time, Norwegian Cruise Line CEO Kevin Sheehan said, “we are a little bit smaller than the other big corporations and we have to be a little more thoughtful about finding ways to get the brand out there.” Undoubtedly, it was a clever idea for the company!

About Norwegian Getaway:

Getaway is the line’s newest ship, she features bright and fun Miami-inspired hull artwork by local artist David “LEBO” Le Batard.

The ship is host to a range eateries, bars and amenities all themed around Miami and Latin experiences.  In fact, Rolando Aedo, the chief marketing officer for the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau called Norwegian Getaway “a floating billboard of our great destination.” A high accolade!

PortMiami and Norwegian have signed an agreement that will ensure Getaway is home-ported in the city for a minimum of three years.

PortMiami gave Norwegian a $1.4 million incentive to use for marketing. Speaking about the relationship at the time, Hydi Webb, PortMiami’s manager of business development said “It was just an opportunity that we had to, as a port, jump all over.”
