Cruise Miss Explains her Cruise Holiday Addiction!

1

My cruises just seem to book themselves, I promise it has nothing to do with me! I imagine that’s what a lot of people say about their cruising addiction, but we all know it isn’t true. One thing we do know, however, is that we must all work to fund the addiction that we have to the ocean-based holiday.

Even if you don’t have a cruise booked, I bet you do have at least one in the forefront of your mind that you are hoping to do either this year or next. I think in order for us to remain ‘on the right track’ so to speak, we must always have something cruise related to think about.

My obsession started before I even left the port following my first cruise in 2007. I was genuinely sad to be leaving behind what would become my gateway to the world and since that day, I have always either had something booked or had a voyage in mind for the future that I will check regularly for price changes or special offers.

The passion of sailing the oceans

I really wish I knew what it was about cruise that hooked me so much. That’s what I tell people when they ask me because I can’t give a simple, straight forward answer. All I can say is that I absolutely love it. The smell, the food, the rough seas, the muster drill, the friends I make in both passengers and crew, the places I see, the fact that the itinerary could change at the last minute depending on the weather – everything!! And it is all of those things combined that have got me gripped and will simply not let go.

People say they are addicted to cruising, I have even said it myself several times, and I really do believe it. That is why we have what I like to refer to as ‘no cruise control’. Firstly, we can’t control it and secondly, deep down, we don’t want to control it – well I certainly don’t! My escapades used to be of the 2-week kind once a year to a resort on one of the Balearic Islands, but now I am incredibly lucky to travel frequently and to a wide variety of incredible destinations. I have many moments where I sit and remind myself just how fortunate I am to be doing what I do, and I don’t ever want it to come to an end.

Next destinations list

In July I will be ticking one cruise off my bucket list: a transatlantic voyage from Southampton to New York aboard Queen Mary 2. What makes this voyage even more special, however, is that I will then spend 16-days in America before sailing back to the UK, again aboard Queen Mary 2. If I didn’t have the job that I do at present then I would probably never be able to even dream about a trip like that, let alone be sitting planning it as I type this blog. Just in case any of you are interested, I will be doing a 16-day east coast road trip during my time in the U.S., so it should be a lot of fun. So far I have noted down to visit New York (obviously), Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Massachusets. I leave on this trip in July, so keep checking back for more updates as I will share my entire itinerary with you all a bit nearer the time – it’s still a work in progress at the moment.

Anyway, back to the original topic of conversation – cruises booking themselves. If it makes you feel better, just keep telling yourself that is the case, but if the bank manager asks, you know nothing about it! 😉

  1. First things first: Please, Please Please do not call a ship a boat. Never, ever. What kind of job you could do oanobrd a cruise ship depends on your past work experience. Like everywhere else, your pay depends on the postion you have and therefore what you qualify for. cool places: You will work 10-15 hours a day, 7 days a week, 6 to 10 months straight so you might not see too many cool places !!!How to get a job there: Apply Depending on what you are qualified for, there are different places to apply to.e.g Shops, Casino, Photographers, Spa are mostly under concession, so the cruise line does not hire the people directly.
