Cruise & Maritime Voyages Offers its First-Ever Sailings from Wales in 2017

As demand for cruise holidays grows all over the world, we’re seeing more ports utilised for commercial cruising and more happy cruise lovers. And it’s no different in Wales. From 2017, Cruise & Maritime Voyages are going to offer their first set of itineraries departing from the country.

Making it easier for Welsh cruisers

Previously, anyone wanting to cruise from south Wales would have to travel to an English port to get on board, despite having ports in Newport and Cardiff. It meant an extra flight or long car journey before even setting sail – not to mention the extra cost it adds on to the trip. But British-based passenger shipping specialists Cruise & Maritime Voyages have decided to put an end to that, with cruises departing from Cardiff and Newport.

From the Welsh capital, Cruise & Maritime will be taking passengers on a tour of Spain, Portugal and France. On their 800-passenger Marco Polo ship, they will travel for 10 nights, stopping at the northern Spanish beauty spots of Bilbao and La Coruna as well as Gibraltar in the south of Spain, La Rochelle in France and Lisbon – the picturesque capital of Portugal.

Other cruises from Cardiff will include a Summertime gardens and River Seine experience visiting the Isles of Scilly, France’s Rouen and Belgium’s Antwerp before checking in to Hull. From Newport, on the other hand, passengers will be able to travel to both Norway and Dublin.

Newport’s new routes

A Dublin mini-cruise on Cruise & Maritime’s Magellan ship will call at Dublin and Liverpool over the course of two nights. A longer Newport cruise is available stopping at different parts of Norway as well as British ports. The Fjordland splendour trip includes 11 nights on board, during which passengers will enjoy stops at Eidfjors, Flam and Bergen in the Scandinavian wonderland of Norway.

Also stopping at Dublin, Liverpool and Kirkwall in the Orkneys, the Fjordland splendour cruise has a total of nine nights in the Norwegian Fjords. It will no doubt be popular with enthusiastic South Wales cruisers who have previously had to travel surplus miles to get on their favourite getaways.

The Magellan ship which will cover Cruise & Maritime’s Newport routes is the bigger of the two Welsh serving ships, holding 1250 passengers, and will be hosting a Carry On themed cruise too. Sailing from Newport and through the Seine to Rouen, passengers on the cruise will enjoy a five-night tour of Europe’s medieval cities.
