Celebrity Goes Casual Chic with New Dress Code

0

Celebrity Cruises has this week announced changes to its at-sea dress code, requesting that guests wear more relaxed attire when attending certain nights aboard a Celebrity Cruises sailing. As part of the announced dress code changes, Celebrity has said that jackets and ties will no longer be required at designated formal evenings on board — in a move which is sure to surprise some repeat cruise passengers.

Dubbed ‘evening chic’ by the cruise line, the new dress code requests that guests wear relaxed, ‘smart casual’ type clothing as opposed to the formalwear that has long been a requirement aboard every ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet. It’s thought the dress code change was instigated as a result of Celebrity’s evolving mix of passengers — with a greater number of young cruise-goers taking to the seas with the cruise line in recent years.

Brian Abel, vice president of hotel operations for Celebrity Cruises, said that the new dress code will enable passengers to introduce their own sense of sophistication to the cruise experience, with some passengers choosing to opt for the traditional tuxedo and cocktail dress, and others wearing black jeans, sports jacket or stylish sundress.

Abel said: “As we’re watching our guests, we see this is how they’re vacationing. They are becoming more casual but at the same time, still sophisticated. They still want great food and great service, but they want to experience it in a more relaxed, casual way.”

Whilst the Celebrity dress code may have evolved to become more accepting of smart casual wear, Abel added that there are still rules in place governing the types of clothing accepted aboard Celebrity ships. Ribbed jeans, for instance, are not permitted in dining areas or at formal events, as is this case with shorts, t-shirts and other informal attire.
