…and by placing a large, inflatable turkey on top of Carnival Breeze:

Last week, in order to celebrate the recent Thanksgiving and the reintroduction of their newest ship to their fleet, Carnival Breeze, Carnival Cruise Lines donated 137,500 meals to the charity Feeding South Florida which provides meals to homeless shelters, residential homes and soup kitchens.

The charitable donation made by Carnival to Feeding South Florida will definitely make a difference in the region. It will provide 137,500 much needed meals to vulnerable individuals throughout the Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe counties. The charity Feeding South Florida is based in Pembroke Pines is the biggest food bank in the area. They distribute food and groceries through a network of non-for-profit organisations. From its founding in 1980 the charity has gone from strength to strength. A huge 30 million pounds of food was given out to those who needed it during 2011 in South Florida.

In celebration of the day the cruise line also fixed a huge 50 foot inflatable turkey above Carnival Breeze!  The inflatable turkey was a sight to behold; it was made from nylon but weighed 1250 pounds. The turkey certainly looked the part, being dressed in a straw hat and a Hawaiian shirt! However, the giant turkey was later removed for the ship’s inaugural sailing from Miami.

Carnival Cruise also ran a competition during their Thanksgiving celebrations to give the inflatable Turkey which temporarily sat on top of Carnival Breeze a suitable name. The ‘Name the Giant Turkey Twitter Contest’ was run on the social media platform Twitter and the lucky winner was announced on 26 November. The turkey is now called ‘The Grand Turk’ and the creator of the name has won $500 gift card to go towards their next holiday party!

About Carnival Breeze:

Apart from being home to a giant turkey, Carnival Breeze is a striking ship and the biggest ever to be homeported in South Florida. Carnival Breeze has recently been enhanced as part of the lines £500 million Fun Ship 2.0 enhancement program. This has added new restaurants, bars and even more entertainment. The ship is now even better catered to meet the needs of its guests. For example, if you are looking for delicious food, then passengers should check out the signature burger bar designed by Guy Fieri, Guy’s Burger Joint, for a big juicy burger! The friendly atmosphere in the RedFrog Pub is also not to be missed along with the other great bars and lounges throughout the ship.

Carnival Breeze has just finished a short introductory cruise which departed on Thanksgiving Day and it has now set off on the first of its six or eight day cruises which sail from Miami to beautiful locations in the Caribbean and Bahamas.
