The Celebrity Eclipse Embraces Apple’s Latest Gadget

It has been announced this week that Celebrity Cruises‘ newest ship – the Celebrity Eclipse, will have onboard the first restaurant in the world to have its menus available to diners on Apple’s latest gadget, the iPad.

The restaurant which will feature these iPad menus, is the Qsine restaurant, developed by Chef Jacques Van Staden. The waiters will give the iPads out to diners, and guests will be able to browse the full menu and wine list on the iPad.

The iPads almost failed to make it to the UK for the ship’s launch, as they were caught up in the flight ban imposed due to dangerous levels of volcanic ash in the air. Luckily, after taking a series of different flights, the gadgets arrived just in time for the celebrations and the Qsine restaurant officially became the first in the world to offer this rather elaborate type of menu.

Celebrity has struck up a partnership with Apple for their new ship, the Eclipse, and as well as offering iPad menus, the ship will also have the cruise line’s very first iLounge internet cafe. This will no doubt come as a great bonus for guests on cruises where multiple days are spent at sea.

The iLounge will have a selection of MacBooks for browsing the web, as well as a range of some of the latest Apple products which will be on sale to travellers. There will also be guidance and advice available to show customers how to get the best out of their MacBook or iPod.

The announcement of the addition of an iLounge on the ship has went down so well, that Celebrity Cruises have already decided they will be retro-fitting iLounges in two of their other ships – Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Summmit.
