As part of their 50th anniversary celebrations next year; Princess Cruises have announced a celebrity-packed naming ceremony for the Regal Princess. American actress, Tori Spelling, has been added to the event alongside stars of iconic sitcom The Love Boat, serving as the master of ceremonies for the event.
The Love Boat has played a significant part in Princess Cruises’ history, being located on a number of the line’s ships for much of its nine season run. Spelling’s late father, Aaron, was a producer on the much-loved show.
The Love Boat cast members – Gavin MacLeod (Captain Stubing), Fred Grandy (Gopher, the chief purser), Ted Lange (Isaac, the bartender), Bernie Kopell (Doc, the ship’s doctor), Lauren Tewes (Julie, cruise director) and Jill Whelan (Vicki, the Captain’s daughter) – will all be present at the event, lending their support.
Spelling will be on the Regal’s gold carpet interviewing the show’s cameo guests including Loni Anderson, Jamie Farr, Pam Grier, Florence Henderson, Jack Jones, Lorenzo Lamas, Rich Little, Kristy McNichol, Mackenzie Phillips, Frank Sinatra, Jr., Charlene Tilton, Joan Van Ark and Dick Van Patten.
The show’s most frequent guest, Charo, will give a classical guitar performance during the event.
Although the Regal Princess entered into service earlier this year, Princess Cruises have decided to delay the naming ceremony until 2015 as part of the 50th anniversary celebration. The ship will begin its maiden Caribbean season in April 2015, offering guests the opportunity to enjoy a selection of unique features including the 28-feet glass bottom walkway, extending beyond the edge of the ship.
