For those considering their first cruise, great news: P&O Cruises has announced its summer cruise programme for 2019, a collection of itineraries with a particular focus on the new-to-cruising set.

With almost 180 itineraries across P&O Cruises’ eight ships, the all-new cruise collection features popular destinations along with longer ‘Discovery Cruises’ to waters less travelled, offering guests an opportunity to visit areas they might never have seen before.

Among the programme, highlights include a weekly seven-night voyage through Norwegian Fjords on their Britannia, Ventura and Azura ships between April and September and fortnightly Western Mediterranean cruises aboard Britannia, Ventura and Azura from May to October.

Elsewhere, their Arcadia and Aurora ships will host a plethora of immersive cruises aimed at passengers looking to come back for more, while discovery-led, scenic cruising on Oriana and Oceana’s Malta Mediterranean fly-cruise programme open up all-sorts of intrepid exploration for the first-timer. P&O Cruises are currently finalising the schedule for its Adonia ship, and will reveal its destinations soon.

Speaking of first times, P&O Cruises’ inaugural jaunt to the Arabian Gulf will feature as part of the 2019 programme. In addition, four new extended repositioning cruises will also be added, set to sail from Dubai to Malta via the Suez Canal.

More maiden calls will sweep through to Le Verdon, Bordeaux as well as Fredericia, Denmark, an eastern part of the Jutland peninsula with a storied military background. Additionally, evening and overnight calls abound, allowing passengers to let their hair down and take in the varied nightlife of Amsterdam, Boston, Dubai, Madeira, New York, Quebec, Reykjavik, Rotterdam and St. Petersburg.

Classic destinations such as Rome, Florence, Pisa, Barcelona and Monte Carlo afford plenty of opportunity to cross off a city or two from your wishlist, while cities off the beaten track, such as Sorrento, Propriano, Olbia and Calvi, are sure to turn you from trainee traveller into seasoned sightseer in no time at all.

Also part of the new programme, 2019 will see:

  • Strictly Come Dancing and Food Heroes themed cruises
  • A 13-night British Isles Itinerary
  • Fly-cruises to experience the autumnal charm of Canada and North America
  • No-fly 28-night Caribbean cruises
  • Two and three-night short breaks perfect for first-time cruisers
  • A cruise letting petrolheads experience the Monaco Grand Prix

Of the new programme Paul Ludlow, P&O Cruises’ senior vice president, said: “I don’t believe there is another cruise line or indeed travel company which offers this breadth of holiday choice with exhilarating, memorable celebrity trips.

“From the great sights across the globe to intimate one-off dining experiences, the world’s best sporting events or simply a hidden cove in the sun, it is an unparalleled choice.”

General sale opened September 12, with prices starting from £199 per person for a two-night cruise from Southampton, while past passengers were afforded a range of discounts.
