As winner of the Wave Awards ‘Best Entertainment’ honour, Norwegian Cruise Line proved they know how to party. Now, the leading line has stepped up its game even further, with a galvanizing new entertainment line-up set to roll out on Escape and Getaway.
Just months after Escape cruised into Southampton and was christened by the legendary Pitbull, entertainment executives have announced that it will be treating guests to a brand new after dark entertainment bill in 2016. On March 5th the ship will say farewell to Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet, a high energy stage show that saw rock ‘n’ roll icons such as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins collide in a thunderstorm of soulful sound. Blue Suede Shoes, Fever, Great Balls of Fire and Walk the Line were just some of the tunes that lit up the stage. Of course, such a hit show wouldn’t simply be scrapped. Instead, it’s being transferred to Norwegian Getaway, and will take the place of the existing main card, Legally Blonde.
A surprise on the cards for Norwegian cruisers
Meanwhile, former Supper Club dinner show, For the Record: The Brat Pack will open as an on the house performance in the Escape Theatre from April 16th. Celebrating the legacies of motion picture masters, the show is a reimagined version of John Hughes’ hit 1980s film. As for what show the Supper Club will feature. The title is yet to be confirmed, but given Norwegian’s reputation it’s guaranteed to be a hit!
Also new in 2016 is the Escape Theatre’s Vocal Over Drive, a modern pop acapella group with an international reputation for sweet sounds. After their Escape stint from March 5th to April 16th, the group will switch to the Getaway Theatre.
Maintaining the entertainment crown
Richard Ambrose, Vice-President of Entertainment for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings maintains that the changes are all part of the line’s commitment to staying at the front of the entertainment pack. “Norwegian is leading the way in providing engaging, enjoyable and exciting entertainment for guests across our fleet,” he said. “These updates to our entertainment offerings will ensure we remain at the forefront of the industry, providing the very best contemporary, award-winning entertainment for our guests.”
Wildly popular favourite Burn the Floor will continue as scheduled, as will Tony Award-winning Broadway hit After Midnight starring Brenda Braxton. With old favourites and sizzling new acts set to hit the stage, 2016 is shaping up to be one of Norwegian’s most exciting years to date!
