Norwegian Breakaway promises spectacular fireworks display as finale to Rock of Ages-inspired 1980s party

Last month, Norwegian Cruise Line announced that new ship Breakaway will host a 1980s themed party, complete with grand fireworks finale, on every voyage in its inaugural summer sailing.

The decadent ‘80s party and colourful fireworks display build on the electrifying theme of the ship’s headlining Broadway show, Rock of Ages.  The party will take place at the open-air venue “H2O”, which is at the aft of the ship, where holidayers will be able to dance to a playlist of specially selected classics by the most popular artists from the decade.

Both the party and the fireworks spectacular will take place on the second to last night at sea each week during Breakaway’s inaugural summer season, right after Breakaway leaves Bermuda.

Guests will be dazzled as the environmentally friendly fireworks finale lights up the night sky right above the ship.  The pyrotechnic show has been designed and produced to a playlist of ‘80s hits including “Come on Feel the Noise,” by Quiet Riot; “Whip It,” by Devo; “Cherish,” by Madonna; “Final Countdown,” by Europe; and “Purple Rain,” by Prince.

So, if you’re planning a holiday onboard Norwegian’s newest ship during it’s first summer season, and you’re a big fan of the ‘80s and a lover of fireworks, this event is sure to be unmissable!

Speaking about the fabulous party and the spectacular show, Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s CEO said:

”All the incredible entertainment and amenities on Norwegian Breakaway are going to wow our guests.  We wanted one additional element that would really blow them away and this incredible fireworks show is going to take the cruise to a new level of excitement.”

About Norwegian Breakaway:

This brand new 4,000-passenger ship makes it debut in mid-May this year, in New York City.  The ship will then go on to make weekly summer seven-day cruises  to Bermuda on May 12.  From October 2013-April 2014, Breakaway will offer voyages from the heart of Manhattan to the Bahamas, Florida and the Southern Caribbean.

Headlining Broadway show Rock of Ages is just one of the fantastic entertainment options Norwegian have revealed about Breakway ahead of the ship’s launch.  The five-time Tony nominated show will also be joined by two other Broadway shows:  dance sensation Burn The Floor and Cirque Dreams & Dinner Jungle Fantasy.

About Norwegian Cruise Line:

Norwegian are an innovative cruise line with a 46-year history of “breaking the boundaries of traditional cruising.”  The company introduced “Freestyle Cruising” which revolutionised the entire industry.

Norwegian’s largest Freestyle Cruising ship Norwegian Epic made its debut just two and a half years ago.  This ship has been named “Best Overall Cruise Ship” buy the readers of travel weekly for two year in a row (so we’re guessing Norwegian Breakaway, once launched, will also scoop up a bevy of prizes too!)

After Breakaway’s launch this May, Norwegian are adding a further ship (Getaway) to their fleet in January 2014.  A third ship named “Breakaway Plus” is also under construction and will be delivered in Autumn 2015.
