With the final preparations being made for Anthem of the Seas’ grand launch next spring, Royal Caribbean has announced the on board musical will be We Will Rock You – the musical based around the music of rock band Queen.
The announcement sees both ships in the Quantum class of ships receive musicals based upon influential bands, with Mamma Mia due to headline the Quantum of the Seas.
Passengers will be able to enjoy the show in the Anthem of the Seas’ bespoke theatre hall and attend a themed after-show party with the stars of the show.
The musical, written by Ben Elton, has been a huge success since it premiered in London 12 years ago – being performed in cities all around the world. We Will Rock You is a dystopian tale of a group Bohemians struggling in a future society wherein music is banned, and rock music is almost forgotten about. It has gone on to be the longest-running musical at the historical Dominion Theatre, only closing during June this year.
Cast members are named after characters namedropped in Queen songs such as Galileo and Scaramouche from Bohemian Rhapsody and the eponymous Killer Queen.
Remaining members of the band Queen have performed with the musical a number of times. Brian May and Roger Taylor have offered their musical abilities to premieres and special performances.
