London’s inaugural Wave Awards ceremony named it as one of three worldwide finalists for the Favourite Destination category, as voted for by over 27,000 cruise addicts. The 9th edition of the Cruise Excellence Awards honoured Valletta Cruise Port as the Best Mediterranean Port & Destination, further adding to its industry credentials.
A commitment to growth
Peter Vella, UK Director for the Malta Tourism Authority is adamant that Malta is one of the fastest growing holiday destinations on the planet, with cruise tourism opening up new opportunities for both travellers and the local Maltese economy. “The cruise industry is one of the fastest growing segments of the travel industry,” he said, “and our aim is to successfully evolve Malta from a one port call destination to a home porting one. With the increasing popularity of cruise holidays, we continue to improve our product offering, the recognition from these prestigious awards encourage Malta to further develop its cruising industry and to expand as much as possible.”
