Azamara Club Cruises has held its first AzAmazing Evening on British soil in the famous Liverpool Cathedral, treating 600 cruise passengers to a concert by the tribute act Cavern Club Beatles and organist Professor Ian Tracey.

The cruise company has held a number of these events in some of the world’s biggest port cities such as Rio de Janeiro and St Petersburg, treating their passengers to a unique taste of local culture in iconic surroundings.

Beatlemania

The Liverpool AzAmazing Evening was organised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles breaking America with their appearance of the Ed Sullivan TV Show. The tribute act played just some of the famous foursome’s peerless back catalogue.

The event also marked the 175th anniversary of Liverpool’s maritime history, with the city growing as one of the UK’s foremost ports and seafaring regions. Following the concert, Azamara Club Cruises organised an awe-inspiring fireworks display at the city’s Pier Head.

Roaring Success

Richard Twynam, Azamara’s new UK managing director, enthused: “Liverpool seemed a great choice for our first AzAmazing Evening in Britain, as the 50th anniversary of The Beatles arriving in the US has huge appeal to our many American passengers.

“When Angie Redhead, Liverpool Cruise Terminal manager, first took me to the cathedral, just by chance the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic started a rehearsal and it was incredible. Angie kept going on about the attractions, but there was no need. I was blown away and the cathedral team, led by Eryl Parry, has been fantastic.”

Intimate Luxury

Following the event, the Azamara Journey set sail for Holyhead with its 600 passengers. The Azamara Journey has a packed few months coming up, cruising around many of the most beautiful Mediterranean cities. With itineraries including the Spanish islands and the Italian Coast running throughout September and October, the Azamara Journey offers Britons a chance to squeeze a little extra sunshine out of 2014.

The two-ship Azamara fleet is much smaller than many of its contemporaries with each liner holding less than 700 passengers, offering a more intimate experience than many larger ships. Designed as luxury ships, the Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest’s itineraries are intentionally cultural and sophisticated.
