After first ‘Solar Eclipse’ Cruise sold out, the company have announced a second.
Holidaymakers who are starry-eyed about astronomy, but who missed out on the ‘Solar Eclipse’ cruise onboard Fred. Olsen’s Boudicca will be happy to hear they won’t have to miss this “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity after all. The company have just announced they will run a second cruise onboard sister ship Black Watch.
The company were happy to announce the second cruise will run as a result of popular demand.
The solar eclipse is one of the most wonderful natural spectacles in the world (and in this case, space) but also one of the most difficult to view; this type of eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. It totally obscures the Sun and blocks all direct sunlight, plunging us into complete darkness!
It’s thought the best opportunity to view the eclipse will be on the 20th March. Daylight will completely disappear for a few brief moments, but only within a narrow band of Earth known the “Path of Totality.” Fred Olsen’s passenger ships Boudicca and Black Watch will be perfectly positioned off the coast of the Faroe Islands at this time, in the path.
The location, which is half way between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean has limited light pollution, so will provide a perfect location for viewing.
The newly launched cruise onboard Black Watch will depart from Southampton on March 16th 2015 for 14 nights, and it will operate a similar itinerary to the Boudicca voyage, calling at ports in the Faroe Islands, the Lofoten islands and Norway before returning back to Southampton.
Speaking about the demand for a second cruise holiday, Nathan Philpot, the Sales and Marketing Director of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines said:
“We have been overwhelmed by the interest in this cruise itinerary and I am sure demand for the second cruise will match the first”.
Prices for this fascinating cruise will start at £1,7999 per person, based on two adults sharing an inside, twin cabin Grade I room. The cost includes accommodation, all meals, onboard entertainment and port taxes.
