It’s the quintessential image of the relaxing holiday – sipping Pina Coladas alongside a beautiful swimming pool. Whether you are landlocked or aboard a floating luxury resort, the swimming pool is one of our holiday highlights.
Here are five of the most beautiful, enjoyable and unique swimming pools making their ways across the world on cruise ships.
1. Royal Caribbean’s AquaTheater
Ships: Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas
The two Oasis class ships from Royal Caribbean boast the shared honour of hosting the tied deepest pools on the sea. The 18 foot deep AquaTheaters are the multi-purpose pools that are popular with the floating public by day; offering scuba lessons and a selection of activities. By night, the AquaTheater becomes the centre of attention when hosting aquatic performers – high diving athletes, acrobats and synchronised swimmers. The pool is also the location of a stunning 65 foot fountain show.
2. MSC Infinity Pool
Ship: MSC Divina
A staple of the homes of the rich and famous, the infinity pool offers a unique sense of freedom and flow between the pool and the outside world. The adults-only infinity pool aboard the MSC Divina adds a touch extra class and sophistication, offering a beautifully relaxing way to depart from port. The minimalistic pool is surrounded by sculptures which emit relaxing sounds of nature as the pool melts seamlessly into the sea.
3. Royal Caribbean’s Solarium
Ships: Anthem of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas and Brilliance of the Seas
Another pool just for the adults (16+), the Solarium features on several Royal Caribbean ships (including the soon-to-be-launched Anthem of the Seas). It’s a stunning Asian jungle-themed pool complex and is a luxurious place to head for a spot of pampering.
4. Princess Cruises Movies under the Stars
Ships: Royal Princess & Regal Princess
The Movies under the Stars feature of the Princess Cruises ships have become one of their signatures, boasting an array of films or sports events for passengers to watch throughout the day and night at their leisure. With the screens on the Royal Princess & Regal Princess (incidentally, the largest screens at sea) set alongside the pool, you can enjoy a few swimming lengths followed by a feature length.
5. Viking Cruises Infinity Pool
Ships: Viking Star, Viking Sky & Viking Sea
The upcoming trio of ships by Viking have taken inspiration from the MSC Divina and fitted infinity pools as standard. The upcoming pools will be accessible for all passengers, giving all ages a unique perspective of the sea.
