P&O Cruises’ latest addition, the Adonia, is to have a very famous Godmother – Dame Shirley Bassey DBE!
Bassey, whose vibrant career has led to 135 million record sales and the title of Britain’s most successful female artiste, is honoured to be invited to be a cruise ship’s Godmother, especially for such a successful British cruise line as P&O. She’s no stranger to honours though, as the recipient of numerous accolades including being named DBE (Dame of the British Empire) in 1999, as well as being the only singer ever to record three James Bond movie songs!
Adonia, a smaller ship compared to some of the giants around at the moment, will feature all of regular passengers’ favourite features, including a classic dance floor, silver service dining, classical music recitals and guest speakers and a dedicated card room. Loyal cruisers can expect the same refined experience they are accustomed to, with entertainment forming a vital part. Who could be a more suitable fairy Godmother then, than Dame Shirley herself!
The naming will take place on Saturday 21st May at Southampton Docks, and with over 500 guests involved it promises to be a stylish and glittering ceremony. ‘I am sure that on the naming day she will need no excuse to “get the party started”!’ said Carol Marlow, P&O Cruises’ managing director. The vessel’s maiden voyage, a sixteen night cruise in the Western Mediterranean, will take place the following day.
