Celebrity announce four inspiring women to be godmothers to Reflection

Celebrity Cruises have decided to honour Breast Cancer Awareness Month by choosing four employees to be collective godmothers to its brand new Solstice Class ship, Reflection.

The four women were chosen due to their incredible lifetime achievements, ( which includes battling breast cancer) or because the cause was close to their hearts.

Two of the chosen women work on the cruise ships while the other two work in the company’s corporate offices.

The four new Celebrity Reflection godmothers:

Jovanka Goronjic – Jovanka joined Celebrity’s AquaStaff in 2009 after working on Celebrity’s sister brand, Royal Caribbean International.  Jovanka’s mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 and had to endure several rounds of treatment. Jovanka bravely donated her hair to the creation of wigs for cancer treatment, in honour of her mother. With support from Celebrity, Jovanka spent time with her mother during her treatment. We’re pleased to tell you that Jovanka’s mother has since defeated the illness and now Jovanka is the AquaSpa manager on Celebrity Constellation

Megan Mathie – Magan is a glassblowing artist onboard Solstice. Several years ago, Magen learned that both her mother and sister had breast cancer and so flew home to be with them. Eventually, Megan’s mother and sister convinced her to return to work and now Megan puts on a “Hot Pink Glass Show” to support the breast cancer cause. Megan auctions off her one-of-a-kind creations to raise funds for Celebrity’s charitable partner, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Helen O’Connell – Helen has worked within the Community Relations division of Celebrity Cruises for eight years. She leads the company’s annual “GIVE” day. Helen was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2009. During this time, she still travelled to New York every weekend for three months, to see her father who was battling bone cancer. Helen is known for always putting other people first.

Rosey Rodriguez – Rosey is the manager of the company’s special events team. She is a single mother of two children and was diagnosed with stage-3 breast cancer in June this year.  Rosey refuses to take short-term disability leave, and instead, she takes her laptop with her to treatment sessions so she can work remotely! She is absolutely resolute in her commitment to beat the disease!

Honouring the four women chosen, the following quotes were released by Celebrity bosses:

“The breast cancer cause is one we’ve adopted across the Celebrity brand, and one with deep meaning for each of these women and their four predecessors. These ladies are not only inspiring in their professional lives, but in their personal lives, as well, with each of them devoted to their own and our company’s interest in doing all we can to find a cure for breast cancer.”

— Richard D. Fain, Chairman of Celebrity Cruises

“These impressive women personify the qualities we admire among our Solstice Class Godmothers: remarkable strength and courage, along with optimism, warmth and genuine care for others.  They beautifully represent countless other women within our company and around the world who have battled the disease or supported the cause in honor of friends or family who have done so.”

— Michael Bayley, President & CEO of Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises and Breast Cancer Awareness:

Celebrity have supported the breast cancer cause since 2008 when Solstice held an event to raise funds for screenings for women with low incomes.  The company is now the official corporate partner to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), giving the guests the chance to make a difference simply by vacationing and partaking in the unique lineup of onboard experiences, which aim to help raise awareness and funds for the BCRF.
