Celebrity Cruises passengers will soon be able to enjoy one of the world’s rarest culinary treats – the white truffle, after the line bought two of the fungi at the World White Truffle Auction in Grinzane Cavour, Italy.
The two truffles, weighing a total of 700 grams, will be showcased at exclusive dining events unique to Celebrity Cruises. The invite-only auction was attended by Celebrity Cruises Executive Chef, John Suley, who enthused:
“White truffles are the ultimate luxury, and Celebrity now has two of the rarest in the world. Sought after by Michelin-starred restaurants and connoisseurs, truffles generate excitement among all foodies – their flavour, aroma and rarity are so extinct – and they’re only available during a short period of time each year. They’re a product of nature that even technology can’t replicate.
The truffles will be used on a cruise aboard the Celebrity Equinox, during the ship’s 10 night Caribbean cruise departing from Fort Lauderdale on Friday 21 November 2014. A selection of truffle-themed dishes will be available aboard other selected Celebrity Cruises journeys throughout November and December.
Suley explained: “Our guests can enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience with our decadent white truffle menu, paired with exquisite fine wines. We will be creating beautiful, yet simple, mouth-watering dishes, from wild mushroom risotto with delicately thin slices of the prized truffles, to indulgent desserts topped with white chocolate and truffle Chantilly cream.”
White truffles can only be found for a few months of the year in the Piedmont region of Italy. The season becomes a huge event for the culinary calendar with gastronomes coming from all around the world to secure the rare truffles. The World White Truffle Auction held annually at the 14th century Castle of Grinzane Cavour, is an internationally recognised event.
