Celebrity Eclipse Naming Ceremony Gets Emotional

Last week, Southampton saw the naming ceremony of the Celebrity Eclipse, an emotional event as the Cruise Line confirmed that it is committed to raising money for breast cancer charities across the world.

Kicking the celebrations off with the first Celebrity Sunwalk ever, the day got off to a sunny start. The Sunwalk was organised by Celebrity Cruises with the collaboration of Walk The Walk, a charity dedicated to raising funds for Breast Cancer. Almost 1,000 people attended the walk and the party throughout the day, with many remaining for the naming ceremony at night.

There was live music, DJ’s and street performers in fancy dress providing entertainment all day long. The Huge ship in the background was the perfect, dramatic backdrop for the party set in the Mayflower Park, on Southampton’s waterfront.

Onboard the Celebrity Eclipse, invited guests were ushered to the theatre for the official naming ceremony. The ceremony was unlike previous Celebrity ship namings, with no celebrities, and a much more down to earth feel as the line talked about their efforts to raise money for breast cancer charities.

A film was shown, following Emma Pontin’s battle with breast cancer, and the male choir “Only Men Aloud” sang “She’s The One”, originally by Robbie Williams. The theme was very much pink as an aerial acrobat flew over the theatre with a pink ribbon.

Guests then went out to the ship’s lawn and sipped on Pimm’s as this spectacular ship set out on it’s pre-inaugural cruise. The first paying guests are currently on their cruise to the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands and they are no doubt the envy of many cruise enthusiasts.
