‘The Cruise’ Nominated for National Television Award

0

ITV’s hit documentary, The Cruise, has been nominated for a National Television Award (NTA), in the Factual Entertainment category. The show, which aired earlier this year, showcased the lives of guests and crew members on board the Regal Princess during cruises through Scandinavia and the Baltics.

With average audiences of 3.5 million across the six-part documentary, The Cruise was a hit for the channel better known for light entertainment and Saturday night family viewing. The fascinating documentary detailed how the 1,400 members of the ship’s crew managed to meet all the guests’ expectations whilst hundreds of nautical miles out to sea.

Receiving high praise from critics and viewers alike, Princess Cruises were understandably delighted by the show’s performance.

Tony Roberts, Princess Cruises’ vice president UK and Europe, said: “The feedback from the first series of The Cruise has been overwhelming so an NTA nomination is the icing on the cake.

“I hope everyone who tuned in to watch our crew in action will spare a few minutes to vote for them as they are as fantastic off screen as they are on it.”

There’s some very stiff competition for The Cruise, with the Factual Entertainment category including the likes of Making a Murderer and Great Barrier Reef with David Attenborough.

There’s further good news for fans of The Cruise, with ITV announcing that a second series will be hitting our screens next year. Series two will follow the Regal Princess’ sister ship, Royal Princess, sail across the Mediterranean – with all the action filmed earlier this year.

This will not be the first time that Royal Princess will be the focus of documentary makers. In 2014, as we reported here, ITV cameras were permitted behind the scenes of the Princess Cruises vessel for the four-part documentary, The Cruise Ship.

Princess Cruises have a long history of welcoming cameras on board their fleet, with many of their vessels providing the setting for the huge US sitcom, The Love Boat, between 1977 and 1986.
