The third member of Royal Caribbean’s revolutionary Quantum Class of ships, Ovation of the Seas, has officially launched, and the ship has received surprisingly little hype. No reflection of the ship and its features, the press’ hype machine only has so much juice, and it seems to be mostly focussed upon RCI’s other upcoming ship, Harmony of the Seas, set to be the largest ship in operation.
So, here we take a look at the world’s least likely underdog; a 167,800 GT David competing against the biggest floating commercial Goliath in history. And we’re pretty certain that Royal Caribbean are pleased as punch that both of these megaliners are representing their brand.
Incredible Technologies
When the first member of the Quantum Class fleet was launched 18 months ago, tongues were wagging about the amazing technological features aboard the vessel. The Quantum of the Seas was widely lauded as the most advanced cruise ship in operation, and something of a game-changer. The amazing popularity of this ship, and her sister, Anthem of the Seas, demonstrated that the public were ready and excited for technology-infused cruising.
Ovation of the Seas features all of the top amenities and technologies which has made her sisters so popular – including the 300ft high observation pod, the NorthStar as well as robotic bartenders mixing up perfect cocktails in the now-legendary Bionic Bar. A 220ft outdoor movie screen, and an awe-inspiring entertainment venue with large moving and rotating projector screens, the Two70° Lounge, provides entertainment for all guests aboard the ship.
Larger, More Advanced Staterooms
And it is not just the public spaces aboard the Ovation of the Seas which are getting us a little hot under the collar, the ship also boasts Royal Caribbean’s largest and most advanced staterooms ever. All finished with upscale fabrics, contemporary art and opulent flourishes, every one of the specious staterooms provide comfort and luxury on the seas.
With all cabins and staterooms benefiting from a balcony, either physical or virtual, guests are invited to watch the world float on by as they explore the planet in the utmost luxury.
Epicure’s Paradise
Knowing that the way to a cruise holidaymaker’s heart is through their stomach, Royal Caribbean have blessed Ovation of the Seas with a stunning dining selection. Famous names – Jamie Oliver, Michael Schwartz and Devin Alexander – have all had their say regarding the culinary options aboard the ship.
From the Pan-Asian tastes of Silk to the molecular gastronomy offers of Wonderland to the traditional far of Michael’s Genuine Pub; Ovation of the Seas is packed full with dining options to stimulate every palate and appetite.
The Global Odyssey
Befitting one of the world’s most awe-inspiring and jaw-dropping cruise ships, Ovation of the Seas will undertake a mammoth 52-day sailing from Southampton to Tianjin, China after just a couple of weeks’ service. This once-in-a-lifetime cruise will call in at a number of ports in Europe, including the historical Mediterranean cities of Barcelona, Rome, Naples and Athens before passing through the Suez Canal to the Red Sea and the Asian continent beyond.
Once in Asia, the ship makes a number of incredible stops in Jordan, Dubai, Oman and India before calling in at beautiful Malaysia and the amazing city state of Singapore. After a brief sojourn to Vietnam, the cruise concludes by visiting a number of Chinese destinations including Hong Kong, Xiamen and Beijing.
Following this, the Ovation of the Seas will spend her maiden season sailing out of Tianjin around Asia, Australia and the Pacific islands. Royal Caribbean have recognised the soaring popularity of cruise holidays in these regions, and have moved to position one of their biggest and most feature-laden vessels in the area.
