Why I Love Cruises…. Part 2

4) Travel Tasters

No, this has nothing to do with food… I love how you can get a taste of a huge selection of different countries when you’re on a cruise. I personally don’t try to cram every tourist attraction in the area into a day or two when I visit on a cruise, I just have a little explore and try to gain a feel of the place. If I want to stay somewhere for a long time, I can book up a holiday to that destination for a later date.

Of course some cruises stay overnight for 2 or 3 nights in port and this is great as you get more than just a little taster of the area. Often this is just enough time to see everything you want to see and cross that destination off your must visit list.

5) Quiet Areas

Most small – mid size cruise ships will have little hidden, private spots onboard where you can have the place to yourself. Sometimes they take a bit of finding but on my last cruise, nobody spent time at the front of the ship so when we went there, it felt almost like having our own private yacht (complete with jacuzzi). It was great to just lie down in the sun with a good book, feeling totally relaxed and having some privacy and quiet time.

6) Meeting New People

Whenever I am on a ship, I find myself talking to and meeting people who I would never usually think I would have anything in common with. People often criticise cruise holidays by saying they are full of old people. Not only is this not true, it is also very unfair to act like that would neccessarily be a bad thing. I find that people from older generations on ships tend to be very young at heart and they have some incredible stories to tell from their own travels.

I like the fact that you see the same faces around the ship and there is always someone to pass you in the corridor with a smile and a wave. Normally people keep themselves to themselves in hotels and beach resorts but on a ship people tend to be a lot friendlier and a lot more open to striking up a conversation.

Well those are just a few of the reasons I love cruises. I could go on forever but I will spare you! For any other cruise lovers out there, leave a comment and let me know what it is that YOU love about cruising.
