Which cruise line is best for older adults?

When your own children have flown the nest, taking a cruise holiday geared up for families with activities designed for children is a no-no for adults who seek nothing but total relaxation with a dash of serenity and lots of adult conversation!

If you’re looking to book a cruise holiday and you’re in this boat (pun intended) then do not fear, today’s article will discuss Cruise1st cruise lines and give you plenty of advice on which ships are best for older adults.

Cruise lines for older adults:

There aren’t very many lines dedicated to older adults, though some companies do have “adult only” vessels in their fleet..  P&O have three adult-only ships, for example.

Typically, travel agents tell older adults to choose a luxury line, as tend not cater for children.  Then, you should find a ship and an itinerary you like the look of and work from there.  Each cruise line has pros and cons for adult travellers, we’ll cover a few of these below:

Holland America Line:

If you’re an avid traveller, over the years you have probably visited many countries already, and you’re likely to have been to some of the major cities the cruise ships visit.  Holland America Line actually call on smaller, less-travelled ports so you’re more likely to experience something new and interesting.

Holland America also offer some great facilities for senior and solo passengers, including activities that don’t require partners (great if you and your other half have different interests, or if you’re travelling alone.)

Princess Cruises:

Many adult travellers want to use their relaxation time to learn new skills, meet new friends and try an activity out for the first time.  Princess have an extensive array of exciting enrichment programmes for adults of all ages to enjoy.   With their ScholarShip@Sea program, adults can learn anything from culinary arts to ceramics, partake in lectures, learn history and be given guidance with computing and image editing. Not all programmes are available on all ships, so it might be an idea to pick activities you think you’ll enjoy, and work backwards from there.

Cunard  Cruise Line:

Fancy a sophisticated evening with likeminded diners, dressed in your finery?  Cunard offers their guests an elegant evening, complete with a string quartet in the ballroom.

P&O Cruises:

Love Strictly Come Dancing?  Judge Craig Revel Horwood will join seven P&O “Strictly” cruises in summer 2013.

P&O also have three ships dedicated exclusively to adult travellers.  Though, “adult” includes everybody 18+ you can still enjoy a cruise on this line knowing that there won’t be crying babies and lively children running around on deck!

Seabourn:

Seabourn does allow children on their ships, but there are no activities geared up for children specifically. As such, the line does not attract many youngsters!
