Watch Anthem of the Seas’ Construction

Building an 18 deck Smartship fit for 5,000+ passengers and crew members, packed out with restaurants, theatres, cabins, swimming pools and a 300ft-high observation pod is a feat of engineering brilliance. For the non-technical amongst us, constructing such a vessel capable of traversing the seas seems an impossible task.

Luckily for us, Royal Caribbean have released a time lapse video showing how their newest ship, Anthem of the Seas, is constructed. Set in the family-owned Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany; the video shows the ship’s progression from a large shell to the world’s most technically advanced cruise vessel.

The video also tours the giant shipyard in Germany which has built a selection of ships for the world’s most respected cruise lines including Norwegian Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruises as well as Royal Caribbean.

Shortly after the Anthem of the Seas takes to the open ocean in April 2015, work will begin on the third ship in Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Class fleet: Ovation of the Seas. Founded in 1795, Meyer Werft have built up a reputation for innovation and engineering brilliance over the past 200 years, becoming an industry leader and trusted ally of the world’s largest cruise lines.

Previous Royal Caribbean ships built in the Meyer Werft shipyard include Quantum of the Seas, Jewel of the Seas, Serenade of the Seas, Brilliance of the Seas and the Radiance of the Seas.
