If you’re someone who likes to splash out on lavish accommodation, a cruise is probably the perfect holiday for you. From no-frills to outright opulent, the quality of cruise ship cabins varies enormously from vessel to vessel. To help you find a plush pad that’s extravagant enough for your next seafaring adventure, here’s a shortlist of seven of the world’s most luxurious cruise ship suites.
If a 400 square foot veranda and baby grand piano are on your accommodation wish list, opt for a stay in one of Celebrity Cruises’ Penthouse Suites. Available aboard each of the line’s Solstice Class vessels, these opulent chambers feature lavish furnishings and some truly outrageous gizmos including a 52” TV, exterior whirlpool bath and dual Hansgrohe showerheads. If that wasn’t enough, Celebrity has included an eight-seater, hardwood dining set – so you can entertain in style.
Walk into a Royal Loft Suite aboard Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas, and you’ll feel like you’re in the Hollywood Hills rather than floating atop the high seas. With 1,600 square foot of unadulterated luxury at your disposal (not including a further 900 square foot exterior balcony with dining area and whirlpool bath) these two-storey cabins offer opulence at every turn – from the baby grand to the extraordinary floor to ceiling windows. Royal Loft Suite’s accommodate up to six guests, with cavernous rooms for all.
If travelling aboard Cunard’s luxurious Queen Mary II isn’t quite extravagant enough, opt to stay in the ship’s regally named Balmoral Duplex; two storeys of sheer indulgence connected by a sweeping staircase befitting a Surrey mansion. With more marble surfaces than the original Balmoral, this cavernous suite provides all the seaborne luxuries you could wish for – including two whirlpool baths, a private gym and an enormous outdoor terrace where you can sip a martini and enjoy panoramic views of the ship and ocean below.
For luxury rivalled only by a meagre few dry land hotels, it has to be a Garden Villa aboard Norwegian Dawn. With up to 7,000 square feet of living space, three bedrooms, two steam rooms, a private deck, six-person hot tub and optional concierge team at your beck and call – you won’t need to stray far from your room for the duration of the voyage. The Garden Villa is located at the top of the ship, with a series of window walls offering spellbinding views beyond yonder horizon.
Yacht Club Membership aboard the MSC fleet grants you several added luxuries – not least access to Yacht Club exclusive cabins. The best of this offering is no doubt the Royal Suite, whose small yet perfectly formed interior offers supreme levels of comfort. Cabins come with their own butler service, with all-inclusive food and drink available throughout the day. Head beyond the luxurious confines of your cabin to experience the other perks of Yacht Club Membership.
If you’re looking for luxury with a dash of eccentricity thrown in for good measure, try a Penthouse Veranda aboard Holland America’s Noordam. Bright colours, contemporary furnishings and original artwork give these cabins a youthful touch without forgoing sophisticated luxury. Step outside and you’ll find a teak decked balcony, festooned with plants and other fanciful touches. Penthouse Verandas come with the usual bells and whistles; think hot tubs, whirlpool baths and a private butler’s pantry.
Timeless and classy – that about sums up P&O Adonia’s penthouse suites. Combining the sophistication of old world cruising with contemporary tech (think Jay Gatsby meets Tony Stark), Adonia’s penthouse suites are decorated in an enduring royal blue and gold palette, occasionally accentuated with dark wood furnishings. The result is luxurious and refined, with just enough gadgets and technologically to keep you interested. Adonia is an adults-only vessel, making it perfect for couples looking for a little quiet time in the most sumptuous of surroundings.
