Following news earlier this week that Wyle Valley-based artist Laura Rich had completed 64 paintings for the upcoming Britannia, P&O have selected more artwork from another UK artist – Paul Bishop from Stone, Staffordshire.
Gallery owner Bishop has been selected to submit a selection of his works to the P&O Britannia, earning the honour of having his work viewed by hundreds of thousands of people every year.
The 56 year old runs The New English Gallery in Stone after moving from nearby village, Barlaston just over a year ago. The P&O Britannia will play host to four of his works in the ship’s oriental restaurant.
Bishop enthused: “I’m super excited to have been commissioned by P&O to create 4 unique multi-plate installations for the amazing oriental restaurant on board this ship.”
The P&O Britannia will take to the seas for the first time in March 2015, sailing to the Mediterranean. The ship will become the largest cruise liner build for the UK market, with a capacity of 3,647 passengers and a 94 metre Union Jack flag painted on her bow – the largest of its kind in the world.
