When Splendour of the Seas transfers from Royal Caribbean to Thomson Cruises, as reported here, she will be officially renamed the Thomson Discovery. The ship will become the largest member of the Thomson Cruises fleet with a capacity of 1,830 passengers.
The transfer signifies a huge leap forward for Thomson Cruises with the new ship being the first in the fleet to offer a high volume of balcony cabins. Almost half of the 915 cabins aboard the Splendour of the Seas offer balconies with stunning views – adding to the experience of holidaying with Thomson Cruises.
Thomson Cruises boss, Helen Caron, enthused: “Thomson Discovery will be a fantastic addition to our fleet and we can’t wait to welcome customers on board so that they can experience it for themselves.
“The introduction of the ship is part of our on-going modernisation and transformation strategy, which has included recent investment in our other ships.
“The newest addition is larger than the others in our fleet. However, it still fits with our strategy of operating smaller ships with must-do itineraries.”
Upon joining Thomson Cruises, the Discovery will sail out of Palma and itinerary highlights include overnight stays in Barcelona and Ibiza. The ship will operate four different seven-night itineraries throughout the Western Mediterranean and flights are available every Saturday from 19 regional airports in the UK.
The Thomson Discovery will specialise in catering for the family holiday market – with a number of features targeted at all ages including a rock climbing wall, outdoor movie screen, 800-seat theatre and three a la carte restaurants.
Cabins aboard the Thomson Discovery will go on sale later this year, as the Splendour of the Seas completes its final months in Royal Caribbean’s service.
