In partnership with Florida International University (FIU), Royal Caribbean are set to unveil an 130,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art rehearsal and production studio this Friday. The partnership between the university and cruise line has been set up to complete collaborative research and talent development.
The Royal@FIU World Stage Collaborative will offer prospective students paid internships, custom curricula and behind-the-scenes access to Royal Caribbean’s industry-leading facilities. Students will also be able to interact with and learn from experienced members of the Royal Caribbean team. Students in the university’s Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and the College of Architecture and the Arts can apply for the internships and other opportunities within the new facility.
The facility will offer students hands-on experience with cruise line operations as well as managing on-board entertainment facilities including lighting, stage design, audio engineering and production. Additionally, the students will be given access to the marketing and sales data from Royal Caribbean’s six brands, helping them conduct primary research.
Designed to bridge the gap between private industry and academia, the comprehensive facility will feature a 300-seat theatre, three-story studios, square-foot costume-making facility, 10 rehearsal studios, a recording room and video editing facilities.
The grand unveiling will take place on Friday 20 March 2015, at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus from 10:15am to noon. FIU President, Mark B. Rosenberg and Royal Caribbean Chairman and CEO Richard D. Fain will speak at the unveiling.
