As we reported back in November, it was widely believed that Royal Caribbean were planning to transfer Majesty of the Seas to Pullmantur Cruises in 2016. However, it now appears that the cruise line has reversed the decision and the ship will stay with the brand following an extensive makeover.
The ship will move from her traditional home in Miami to Port Canaveral and complete sailings to CocoCay – Royal Caribbean’s private island. The Majesty of the Seas is due to undergo a makeover in May 2016, including the installation of Voom – the fastest internet connection at sea which will be free to all passengers.
Other features planned during the makeover include the addition of new restaurants including the popular Izumi, Chef’s Table and Sabor Taqueria chains. Families will also be able to enjoy the DreamWorks experience – added to Majesty of the Seas for the first time following successful stints on other members of the Royal Caribbean fleet.
The Majesty of the Seas is the oldest remaining member of the Royal Caribbean fleet – having been launched in 1992. A full makeover could include an upgrade to the décor which some consider to be somewhat outdated compared to the ships in the Quantum and Oasis classes.
Reports of Majesty’s transfer were not particularly surprising considering her sister ships, Sovereign of the Seas and Monarch of the Seas, have previously been moved to the Pullmantur brand.
To fill the void left by the Majesty of the Seas when she moves to Port Canaveral, Royal Caribbean will transfer Rhapsody of the Seas to Tampa. The ship will begin offering seven-night Western Caribbean cruises beginning in December 2016.
