Royal Caribbean Orders Fifth Quantum Class Ship

Royal Caribbean has this week unveiled plans to add a fifth Quantum Class ship to its flourishing cruise fleet, announcing details of a planned venture with German shipbuilder, Meyer Werft, to build a new ship for delivery in autumn 2020.

The proposed vessel — which remains nameless — will join four other ships in Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Class fleet, including Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas and a fourth ship which Meyer Werft are currently working on for the cruise line.

Richard D. Fain, chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean, enthused: “It is such a pleasure to announce the order of another Quantum Class ship as we are welcoming Anthem of the Seas to North America. These ships have been received with excitement, and performed exceptionally well, across the globe.  We fully expect that momentum to continue as we add to this innovative class of ships.”

As well as being the second largest class of passenger ships on the planet (behind RC’s Oasis Class); Quantum Class vessels are renowned as some of the most technologically advanced ships currently afloat, and boast an array of high-tech features including interactive WOW bands, animatronic bartenders, the ‘North Star’ observation pod, and an incredible on-board sky diving simulator. This focus on technological innovation is sure to be a recurring theme aboard the new Quantum Class ship when it is delivered in 2020.

Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, said: “At Royal Caribbean we are focused on continuously improving efficiency and sustainability, and the fifth Quantum Class vessel will be clear evidence of this. Of equal importance is our ability to consistently surpass guest expectations, and we are harnessing the power of the latest technology to do so on this ship.”
