Royal Caribbean Confirms Fourth Quantum Class Ship

In the wake of the huge popularity of the first two Quantum Class ships, Royal Caribbean has ordered a fourth ship in the class, slated for delivery in 2019. The as-yet-unnamed ship’s order is “a reflection of the success of the first two Quantum Class ships” according to Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean.

The ship has been ordered with German shipbuilder, Meyer Werft, the company responsible for the first two ships and currently building the third member of the class, Ovation of the Seas. Royal Caribbean has trademarked a number of names – potentially lined up for the new ship. Unused trademarked names include Spectrum of the Seas, Joy of the Seas, Emblem of the Seas, Apex of the Seas, Pulse of the Seas and Passion of the Seas.

Fain continued: “We have received a remarkable response from travel agent partners and travellers, and are thrilled that we’ll be able to deliver another revolutionary ship with our partners at Meyer Werft.”

The ship is expected to closely follow the designs of her sister ships, the most technologically-advanced ships on the seas.

No itineraries have been announce for the upcoming ship, but the Quantum Class ships’ homes are positioned all around the world with homeports in the UK, the US, China and Australia – covering many of the world’s major cruise markets.

The option for a fourth ship was originally turned down by Royal Caribbean in January 2014, but the success of the Quantum and Anthem of the Seas upon their launches appears to have changed the line’s mind.

The third sister in the Quantum Class, Ovation of the Seas, is set to enter service with Royal Caribbean in spring 2016.
