Royal Caribbean Captain Accidentally Reveals New Oasis Class Ship Name

Captain Trym Selvag of the Oasis of the Seas has revealed the name of the new Oasis Class will be Harmony of the Seas. In an announcement to passengers aboard the Oasis of the Seas, Captain Selvag accidentally let slip of the guarded name in somewhat unceremonious fashion.

Unsurprisingly, in the age of the internet and social media, this news was instantly made public and shared with the rest of us on shore. The news won’t be totally surprising to those who kept abreast of the news in September that Royal Caribbean had trademarked a number of potential names for upcoming ships including Harmony of the Seas.

Other ship names which were trademarked or renewed by Royal Caribbean in September included Ovation of the Seas which has been earmarked for the third ship in the Quantum Class. Any of the remaining six names could be used for the fourth Oasis Class ship, due for launch in 2018.

The Harmony of the Seas will become the largest passenger ship in operation upon her launch in Summer 2016, dwarfing sister ships, Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas.

The ship is anticipated to contain approximately 6,360 berths – offering passengers for almost 1,000 extra passengers than either of the existing ships in the Oasis Class. With a gross tonnage of 227,700, the Harmony of the Seas will be approximately 2,400 gross tonnes larger than Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas.

Details about the Harmony of the Seas’ homeports and itineraries are still to be revealed, but we’ll be keeping an eye on Captain Selvag in case he lets slip any more information.

It has been a busy month so far for the Oasis Class of ships, with construction officially beginning on the fourth ship in the class – in preparation for a planned launch in 2018.
