Less than a year after the Royal Princess was the setting for ITV documentary, The Cruise Ship; fleet mate, Regal Princess is set to take centre stage for the channel’s fly-on-the-wall six part series, The Cruise. The series will follow the on-board happenings of the ship as it navigates through northern Europe and Russia.
The on board lives of the 1,400-strong crew and passengers are set to be heavily featured in the series, as the filmmakers explore exactly what it takes to keep a cruise ship afloat and entertaining for guests. Princess Cruises has a long history of on board filming, having provided the setting for many of the seasons of famous sitcom, The Love Boat.
The series is set to be shown in March, having been announced by Princess Cruises’ Vice President UK, Tony Roberts, during a recent bash, celebrating the line’s 50th anniversary. He enthused:
“We are delighted to take centre stage for this major new documentary. It was fantastic to have every aspect of life on a modern cruise ship captured on film, from behind the scenes with the crew, on stage with the dancers to up on top deck with the ship’s guests. We’re so proud of our ship and crew and can’t wait for television viewers to see why.”
The series is set to provide an interesting insight for cruise newbies and experienced sea-farers alike, giving the former a glimpse of life on the seas and the latter a chance to explore behind-the-scenes.
Paul Hamann, Executive Producer at Wild Pictures, added: “It was a fascinating experience for our team to be on Regal Princess. A cruise ship of this size is like a small floating town, which enabled us to capture an incredibly rich variety of stories and characters from both crew and guests to give a unique insight into life at sea on one of the world’s biggest cruise ships.”
Airing for six weeks, we reckon The Cruise could help fill that gap between New Year and the new season of Game of Thrones.
