The 2014 US Editor’s Picks Awards from Cruise Critic revealed that Royal Caribbean received two awards. Most notable was the award for best new cruise ship due to the brand new Quantum of the Seas.
“Quantum of the Seas is all about innovation. Bumper cars and skydiving at sea grab the headlines, but the ship itself is simply revolutionary. The technology onboard makes staying in touch a snap, and thoughtful details like USB ports in cabins and interactive kiosks for booking onboard activities are perfect for the modern cruiser,” commented Cruise Critic.
There has been a significant amount of coverage of the ship since it set sail earlier this month and Royal Caribbean also won Best inside Cabins award due to the strength of its virtual balcony staterooms.
The virtual balconies, first introduced on Navigator of the Seas, have transformed what an inside stateroom can be and this really impressed the Cruise Critic editors, “When Royal Caribbean introduced virtual balconies into some inside cabins on Navigator of the Seas, the line surpassed its competition. The cabins, also found on Quantum of the Seas, give passengers the feeling of being in an outside cabin via real-time video from outside the ship that’s piped in and displayed on wall-sized digital screens.”
Cruise Critic commended service on the Quantum of the Seas and stated that passengers are dared “not to have fun” on the bold, innovative ship.
The review is a huge compliment for Royal Caribbean, who took a big leap with this ship, especially with their unique twist on dining and technology. Most traditional cruise ship elements have been turned on their heads on this future-focused cruise ship and this seems to have stood it in good stead in the Cruise Critic awards ceremony.
This is the second award Royal Caribbean has won recently. It also received an award for the Best Cruise Line for the Money in the US News and World Reports 2015 Best Cruise Rankings. Their combination of prices and what you get for it enabled them to shine in this category and they also did well in three others:
The US News and World Reports rankings are based on an expert evaluation of the line’s level of luxury, as well as an assessment of guests reviews and heath ratings.
