Quantum of the Seas Arrives in New York

In the past 24 hours, Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas has completed her maiden voyage and pulled into dock in her new homeport of Cape Liberty, New Jersey. Passing under the famous Verazzano Bridge and past the Statue of Liberty, the new ship took in her new home of the next six months for the first time.

The ship has proved a success with passengers telling local news site, NJ.com, the experience was ‘absolutely amazing’.

Dustine Davis, of London, elaborated: “There’s so many different things: the activities, the shows. The staff was very accommodating. The food was fantastic.”

The arrival of the Quantum of the Seas generated plenty of local interest with news helicopters and lines of fans waiting to welcome the ship and her passengers. The ship will become a regular sight in New Jersey, habitually calling into Cape Liberty before repositioning to China in May 2015.

This occasion marks the end of a long journey for the Quantum of the Seas, first publicly announced by Royal Caribbean in February 2011. More than a three and a half years of development was needed to perfect the most technologically-advanced ship on the seas. Code-named Project Sunshine until January 2013, the name Quantum of the Seas was revealed in January 2013.

The Quantum of the Seas has become the third largest ship in operation after other members of the Royal Caribbean fleet: Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas.

The ship will be christened in New Jersey this Friday (14 November 2014) by godmother, singer and actress, Kristin Chenoweth. Regular cruises will the recommence on 18 November with the ship spending the majority of the next six month season touring around the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
