Princess passengers will now get a chance to unleash their inner pop star with the launch of an electrifying new concept that brings one of the world’s most popular talent shows to the high seas. Loud, live and on-stage, ‘The Voice of the Ocean’ competitions will unfold throughout Princess voyages. Inspired by the TV show, the programme will feature auditions, mentor rehearsal sessions, team coaches, ‘I Want You’ chairs and of course, a grand finale where audience members will cherry pick their champions using voting remotes.
The immersive new entertainment concept is all part of the line’s “come back new” promise that aims to enhance the passenger experience by creating memorable moments and unforgettable memories.
Adrian Fischer, vice president of entertainment for Princess Cruises is the man behind the magic and is confident that the show will be an instant hit. “Whether guests are up on stage or in the audience deciding who gets their vote, we know The Voice of the Ocean will be a huge hit with Princess guests,” he says.

As each cruise commences passengers will be invited to take part in a series of karaoke try out sessions. These are open to passengers aged 16 or over, and take place in the ship’s lounge or showroom. Fellow passengers and crew members will decide who moves onto the next stage of the competition so don’t forget to dress to impress.
The lucky bunch of aspiring singers who make it past the karaoke auditions will then be assigned a mentor to guide them through their at-sea journey. These are professionals hired by Princess to entertain guests as part of the on-board programme. They’ll be on-hand to offer advice and guidance during practice sessions with the Princess Band, as well as coordinate back-up singers to ensure a blow away performance.
Just like on TV, the experience winds up with a live show packed full of action and excitement. The finale will be hosted by the Cruise Director and will see nine wildly talented passengers take to the stage of the Princess Theatre. They’ll need to deliver on dazzle as members of the audience will include the high profile team coaches, guest entertainers, the Hotel General Manager and maybe even the Captain! Mimicking the style of the hit TV show, the coaches will listen to the performances from their “I Want You” chairs, then spin around when they hear a voice that blows them away. Once teams have been picked judges select a finalist who must then perform one final act. The audience then uses personal remotes to vote for the winning contestant and crown them the official winner of The Voice of the Ocean.
“Guests will feel like they are part of the globally popular TV show performing on a high tech set almost identical to the hit show, including rotating red chairs and a live Princess band with back-up singers. We’re excited to discover and foster undiscovered talent and offer guests a whole new way to express their love of music and performing,” adds Fischer.
Catch The Voice of the Ocean on-board Regal Princess in October, followed by Royal Princess and Caribbean Princess in November. Starting in January 2016, eight more fleet members will feature The Voice of the Ocean. This means even more passengers than ever will get the chance to live out their pop star dreams!
