With hundreds of different cruise routes available, chances are you can get to any holiday destination by ship. Whether you want a beach holiday, city break or Arctic expedition, a cruise ship can take you there in style. And now, P&O are making yet another addition to the types of cruise on offer, with the introduction of their ‘discovery itineraries’.
The British-based cruise giants have announced that from June 2017, their smallest ship – Adonia – will be setting sail to some of the world’s less commonly visited ports. The announcement comes after the ship returned to P&O, following a spell with the Fathom brand of P&O’s parent company Carnival Corporation.
Venturing across Europe and Iceland, as well as the Mediterranean, east Atlantic and Caribbean islands, Adonia will be able to transport up to 700 passengers to places they have most likely not been before. Or at least not by ship.
It opens up a new world for cruise lovers, but what kind of places will they be visiting? One of the exciting destinations is the beautiful city of Puerto Banus. Located near the popular resort of Marbella, it will be the first time P&O has visited this part of Spain specifically, which is full of stunning beaches and extravagant yachts.
Even more discovery comes in the visit to Mayreau. It’s the Grenadines’ smallest inhabited island, at just 1.5 square miles. Home to 271 people, Mayreau’s beautiful untouched greenery is bordered by peaceful beaches. Further south, Santarem in the Amazonian river will be on the discovery list for P&O. The Brazilian municipality has over 100km of natural beaches for visitors to enjoy.
Beginning in June 2017, P&O will offer yet more new destinations in winter 2017/18. With a mixture of destinations both new and popular existing ports, the new itineraries will be perfect for cruise lovers who want to mix it up a bit. “Our discovery itineraries are perfect for those wanting to try something a little different,” said Paul Ludlow, P&O Cruises’ senior vice president.
“Many of our guests have a sense of adventure and are keen to visit lesser-known destinations and experience new sights, taste different foods, learn about new cultures and explore unique cities. A discovery cruise will provide them with the perfect opportunity to try something new that they’ll remember for years to come.”
