Oasis of the Seas (the world’s largest cruise ship) is to visit Southampton next year

Royal Caribbean announce that Oasis of the Seas will visit Southampton in 2014, providing a rare “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity for interested travellers.

On October 14th 2014, Oasis of the Seas will arrive at Southampton port, Hampshire; she will mark herself as the biggest cruise ship to ever visit the port, which will take some beating as (joint with Allure of the Seas) Oasis is currently the largest cruise ship in the world.

Oasis will carry out a number of short cruises from Barcelona, before sailing to Southampton. From the English port, Oasis will then sail to the US, probably taking British passengers amongst the 6,000+ she can accommodate.

For cruising fans who hope to travel onboard Oasis, you better book your tickets before they go, as Jo Rzymowska, the associate vice president and general manager of RCI UK and Ireland states that this journey isn’t to set a precedent: this is likely to be a once-in-a-lifetime journey and it’s unlikely the ship will repeat this visit to Europe.

“Oasis is to go to Rotterdam’s dry docks as part of her five-year life cycle maintenance programme and that has given us the opportunity to showcase her in European waters. We’re delighted we can do this, but there are no plans as yet for any other visits.”

Rzymowska would not confirm if there are any plans to send Allure to Southampton too, but she did state that company value their relationship with the port and the importance of the UK cruise industry played a large part in the company’s descision to bring Oasis to the UK for a visit.

“We have such a strong relationship with Southampton and the port and the company is proud to have a long heritage of ships calling in and based from Southampton and we’re very excited to add Oasis of the Seas to this.”

Currently Oasis is based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with her sister ship, Allure of the Seas. The pair are both joint first in the league table of the biggest cruise ships in the world.

Oasis has over 2,700 cabins and staterooms, plus she can hold 5,400 passengers at double occupancy. Most rooms have pull-out sofa beds too, so the ships total available capacity is 6,296 passengers.

Oasis and her sister ship Allure of the Seas both weigh a whopping 225,282 tons.

The ship is conveniently arranged into neighbourhoods that contain everything from restaurants to theatres, from wine bars to casinos, from aqua parks to gift shops and more.
