High demand for Oasis of the Seas European cruises

Royal Caribbean announce that they’ve taken their highest ever pre-booking registrations from customers excited to sail Europe onboard Oasis of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean reported that they’d had a flurry of bookings for Oasis after the ship’s European bookings went on sale to Crown and Anchor Society members this week. This meant staff had to work overtime to meet the demand. Additionally, RCI had to employ part-time employees and move staff around the company, from other departments, all to help out the overworked reservations team.

Jo Rzymowska, Royal Caribbean International’s Associate VP and general manager for UK and Ireland spoke about the demand:

“The thousands and thousands of pre-registrations to be one of the first to book Oasis of the Seas’ European cruises are simply mind-blowing and the ship really is living up to its incredible reputation as being a game changer for the industry.”

“We have increased the size of the team and have contingency team members ready across the whole business to handle the peak in calls we are expecting when the ship opens for general sale on Thursday at midday.”

During autumn 2014, Royal Caribbean will offer limited sailings around Europe and the Mediterranean onboard Oasis of the Seas. The ship will also call at the port of Southampton in England.

MS Oasis of the Seas is the flagship vessel for the company’s Oasis Class section of the fleet. The first of her class, Oasis carries over 6,000 passengers, which set a record at the time of launch, in 2008.

Oasis of the Seas has an impressive 2,700 cabins and a capacity of 5,400 passengers at double occupancy. However, some of the rooms can sleep more guests (with pull out sofa beds) so the ship’s total capacity is higher at 6,296.

Oasis weighs a whopping 225,282 tons, and along with sister ship Allure of the Seas, Oasis is currently joint first in the list of the world’s largest cruise ships by gross tonnage.

A large ship can take some navigating (pun intended) – so the designers conveniently arranged the ships into seven individual neighbourhoods so passengers can easily find their way.

Oasis boasts a 1,380-seat theatre (which plays official Broadway shows), an outdoor AquaTheater with fabulous water ballet and thrilling high-dive acts, an ice-skating show, a comedy club, a jazz club and plenty of places to eat and drink.
